Temporal Tower
Amsterdam Light Festival, Amsterdam (NL), 2013
The Haringpakkerstoren is one of Amsterdam’s lost towers. During the 2013 Christmas season it could briefly be seen once again.
A tower of canvas, steel and light
The seventeenth century architect Hendrick de Keyser designed the building, which remained part of the city's skyline for centuries. In the nineteenth century, the neglected structure was torn down. With Todd van Hulzen, we developed the design for the Temporal Tower: 30 metres of steel, canvas and, most of all, light. The tower was a major eye-catcher at the second Amsterdam Light Festival.
“The Haringpakkerstoren rises again as a sort of Golden Age Fata Morgana.”
Anouk Eigenraam, NRC — 6 December 2013
“Thanks to the projection, Amsterdammers can get an idea of how the city must have looked with the tower.”
Anouk Eigenraam, NRC — 6 December 2013
