The Classical World
Dutch National Museum of Antiquities, Leiden (NL), 2015
The museum’s classical exhibition was redesigned. Subdued projections highlight the connections between cultures.
Objects in a new light
The exhibition features an eye-catching central floor projection. A world map illuminates trade links between the ancient Greek regions and the Near East. Museum objects appear on the map, showing how the civilisations influenced each other’s material culture.
Greek culture
Short animations supply context that helps visitors to view the objects in new and richer ways. They reveal how the collection developed, how vases were manufactured, how civilisations were named, and how eastern cultures influenced the Greek myths. The exhibition clearly shows how Greek culture has left its mark around the world and continues to exert an influence today.
