The art of weaving
Irthi Contemporary Crafts Council, Sharjah (UAE), 2021
Women in the United Arab Emirates have used the Safeefah and Talli weaving techniques for generations. The digital game ‘Hiraf’ is keeping the tradition alive.
Expo 2020 Dubai
Irthi Contemporary Crafts Council aims to keep Emirates craft traditions alive among young people. For Expo 2020 Dubai, Studio Louter developed an educational app that let visitors to the Women’s Pavilion effortlessly learn centuries-old weaving techniques. The app paves the way for the preservation and promotion of traditional crafts in the future.
“Through the Hiraf app, people can see a connection between technology and craft that may have not been obvious before”
