Keeping the neighbourhood safe
PIT Safety Museum, Almere (NL), 2014
In a residential neighbourhood setting complete with houses and streets, visitors are given a job to do: keep the community safe!
Emergency services
At PIT, the Dutch emergency services show visitors what it takes to keep the Netherlands safe. The exhibition provides a playful overview of the historical development of the police, fire and ambulance services. The most striking feature is a collection of vintage vehicles, some of which visitors can get inside.
A family museum
PIT is designed to provide a great day out for the whole family. Children can touch almost everything. Films and interactives are designed for multiplayer and intergenerational use. And PIT is the first museum to have its own go-kart track, complete with a vintage speed camera!
What you can do
The exhibition also involves visitors in present-day issues. Through plenty of hands-on activities and interaction, they discover what they can do to make their own surroundings safer. They can put out a fire, solve a murder, and find out whether their homes are fireproof.
“Great museum, well organised and fun with kids. Anyone who loves the services with flashing lights will be happy.”
