Puzzling Poetry Treasure Chest

Studio Louter & Lucas Hirsch, Amsterdam (NL), 2018

Writing verse is about playing with words. The literary game Puzzling Poetry also came in a kids’ version. Players use words to colour the world.

An addictive game

In the addictive drag-and-drop game Puzzling Poetry Treasure Chest, colour has been drained from the world. To restore it, players have to reassemble scrambled verses by renowned Dutch and Belgian poets like Annie M.G. Schmidt, Ted van Lieshout and Bart Moeyaert. Kids also discover their own talent by creating original poems. Playing the game builds vocabulary, creativity and reading comprehension.

Four languages

Studio Louter and Lucas Hirsch developed Puzzling Poetry Treasure Chest with the Creative Industries Fund NL and the Dutch Foundation for Literature. A Dutch-language Smart Board version for classroom use also exists. The poet Ted van Lieshout, De Schrijverscentrale and education professionals provided creative input to enhance the quality of the design.

Dutch, German, French and English versions of the app have been released. It was exhibited at the Leipzig Book Fair, Livre Paris and the Brooklyn Book Festival.

Puzzling Poetry Treasure Chest is free to download from Google Play and the App Store. The Dutch-language Smart Board version for classrooms, also free, is available here.
