Justice in the sheriff’s courtroom
Stedelijk Museum Kampen (NL), 2022
The administration of justice in the sheriff’s courtroom in Kampen began in the Middle Ages. The room is still intact, but until recently visitors had to imagine the stories. Now an audio experience lets them listen in.
A historical audio play
Around the Middle Ages in Kampen, the sheriffs ran the show. They made important decisions and faced big dilemmas. The matters they considered were described in the city’s record book, the Digestum Vetus. Four sessions dealing with situations in the book come to life in the audio experience. Who’s responsible for a sunken vessel? Is stalking nuns allowed? What punishment would you impose?

Collaboration
The digital learning developer IJsfontein asked Studio Louter to create content for the project. Together we devised a concept that would avoid harming the protected Renaissance-style hall. We sought to create an invisible visitor experience.
